Hi, Please accept my depest apology in late responding, we had to miss your comment. I would like to help you with your backyard however we are a stone fabricator  of countertops, backsplash, combination of colours according to the stone, so it would be better if you ask an outdoor designer. In my personal opinion I think that your choice of white shutters to white fencing will look nice especially on browny background. Good Luck !

I recommend to acquire samples of both choices and put them side-by-side to compare and contrast the differences. These two stones are similar in color tone and pattern so the differences are rather subtle. Both of them are appropriate for your vision and design style so you just have to use the process of elimination and pick your favorite one out of the two! I've created a Comparison Table of the two colors for your easy reference: http://www.Marmidicarrara.com

    Hope this helps!

Hello, after visiting the Ridgefield Park, NJ yard again, I've narrowed down my granite choices to Coffee Brown and Tan Brown.  Can you tell me the difference between these two stones? I have Mocha Maple Cabinets and Elias Tiger Gold Floor Tile. Also, would it be too much to use the same tile I used on my floor for my backsplash? I would appreciate your advice because I have to make a decision in a couple of days. Thanks a lot.

is that going to be to light/yellowy. Will lighthouse landing, although a little duller become brighgter with the light? Also do u suggest super gloss (my painter suggested that) or matte?

Hello. Looks like you will have plenty of natural light in the kitchen from that large window (that's good). I recommend a warm neutral shade such as Benjamin Moore series Lighthouse Landing. The dark granite countertops contrast your cabinet wood nicely so a light beige wall color such as the Lighthouse Landing (or something similar) will add simple serenity for a nautically themed kitchen such as yours. Hope this helps!

  • HB 12:32AM, Oct 12 2012

Hello! I have new tan brown countertops and I am installing noce tumbled travertine as the backsplash. What would you suggest for the paint color (i use benjamin moore)?

    07:27PM, Aug 30 2012

Tan Brown granite is a nice complement and excellent contrast to offset a natural light maple cabinet color! For the backspalsh, I recommend a soft, warm, and neutral tumbled stone tile such as Botticino Fiorito marble or Mediterranean Ivory tumbled travertine and what you can do is add, for example, sized 3" x 3" diamond shaped Tan Brown inserts going across horizontally, say every eight to twelve inches. Hope that makes sense & helps in your decisions! In addition, I've added photos of my tile suggestions for your easy reference.

We are putting tan brown granite with maple cabinets with a light maple wood floor in the kitchen.  2 questions:  will this color of granite work and our bigger issue...... what do we do for a backsplash???????   I saw a display where they cut the granite in a rough looking rock for the backsplash......is that too much granite?

Yes! You are absolutely on the right track. The design elements you've picked will tie-in a warm, cozy, traditional feel for the log home. Go for it!

  • Pam 09:16PM, Aug 11 2012

We are putting in tan brown granite counter tops in a log home. The inner walls are blonde wood with reddish knots and streaks. We are considering using copper metal tiles for the backsplash with the thinking the copper would bring out the red in the granite as well as the walls. Are we on the right track?

You could use a Rainbow Deco Dur travertine, I've attached a photo for your reference. The design right now sounds a little dark so you can contrast and offset a little with a warm backsplash tile. For the wall color, check out Benjamin Moore series Precious Ivory. Description: Evoking the lustrous warmth of well-worn piano keys, this warm beige is a fitting backdrop for heirloom-quality collections. A faint yellow tint adds to its decorative, slightly aged appearance. Hope this helps!

Hello Dave. A question. We have Giallo Mascarello:

Is this what you are referring to as the other choice in contrast to the Tan Brown. If not, can you upload a photo or provide a website link to a photo for a comparison? Thanks!

  • Ron 09:21PM, Jul 25 2012

I would use a light limestome for the first 2 rows from bottom 4"  then a red limestome nosing the cut your limestone in halfs from corner to corner and lay halfs then you can buy the same tan brown granite in tile and lay your tan brown tiles in 4" in a diamond then lay the other half of the ones you cut then another red nosing and finish it off with the same light limestone for top row.  You will love it I am a professional tile installer and have done this before.   Looks great

  • Dave 04:19PM, Jul 25 2012

We have ordered Kraftmaid cocoa/canvas glazed maple cabinets, which have some small brown elements to them, including in columns on ends of island and some cabinets.  We have dark brown oak hardwood floors, and stainless appliances already.  WIll paint walls a light sand or beige.  Considering Tan/Brown and Mascarella Gold granite tops for L-shaped counter and island.  Any preference between the two tops?

Blue Pearl granite looks elegant against darker cabinets such as yours. It's a beautiful, transitional style. Another option you can consider is Sapphire Blue. Hello Betty! For the wall color, my recommendation comes from the Benjamin Moore series called Twisted Oak Path. It has a tan base and it's a pale neutral. For a shade that is more gray, I recommend Icicle. For the glass tile backsplash, I recommend Mirabelle Collection choices, either the golden brown shade or smoky brown. They are in a brick pattern. I've attached photos for your reference. Hope this helps!

My recommendations for you to consider are darker colors for a deep contrast such as Ubatuba, Tropical Brown, and Imperial Coffee. The Giallo Ornamental is a timeless choice but it's much lighter and on the busy side of things, as you've mentioned.

Good Afternoon - I have just refinished my oak shaker style cabinets to a white/cream with a chocolate glaze.  I picked out tan brown granite to go with it but just went to approve it and there was so much orange/red that I said no.  Do you have any other recommendations of granite to look at?  I started with Giallo Ornamental but since the oak has some grain once the cabinets were done I thought it looked too busy.  Thanks!

You are correct that 3" x 3" sized tile is more so for backsplash. I feel you should go with the 12" x 12" tile, that's the standard size for flooring.

  • Tobey 04:25AM, May 27 2012

This is perfect!  Thank you very much. I was even thinking of slate but I have never seen it in a bathroom so I didn't know if it would be a good choice. Will it look good to use the 12" x 12" tiles? Someone recommended that I use smaller tiles in that space since, minus the tub, it is only a 5' by 5' area. However, it is difficult to find smaller-sized tile, and I don't particularly like the look of small tiles on the floor. I saw that your recommendation also comes in a 3" x 3" tile, but isn't that more for backsplashes? It seems too small for a floor. I think the 12" x 12" tile would look good, but I am unsure if the size of the tile will overwhelm the room. Any thoughts?

Different fabricators give stones their own name so it can get quite confusing. I am not familiar with the specific name Indian Dakota, but if it looks like Tan Brown then I think this shade would compliment your design nicely. It would be helpful if you can upload a photo of the backsplash tile you're considering so we can decide if this makes me design too busy. In the mean time, another option I recommend to consider that is similar to Tan Brown is called Dakota Brown, I'm not sure if perhaps that is what you saw marked as Indian Dakota, but it looks like this:

  • Coolrabit 08:51PM, Apr 10 2012

Just left the granite place and saw what I think was the tan brown, more swirls than dotty.  Anway, they don't call it tan brown, they called it indian dakota????  What do you think about that with the canvas with cocoa glaze kraftmaid cabinets.  We were able to pull a tile design that was cream travertine with copper pieces and some glass insets set inside a copper diamond.  It really looked very nice, but I had not intented to pull reds into the granite  originally.  I am very confused.  Do you think it could be too busy.  I am putting a chimney hood above the range in the same wood as the cabinets.
Thanks so much.  You are fantastic with your ability to give me the visuals and comparisons.  I really find that so helpful.  Another really nice stone I saw was what they called Santa Cruz???   Have not idea what that was but it was sold out there.

We have a small, main floor bathroom (north-east light) that we intend on fitting out with espresso cabinetry (not an overwhelming amount-a 54" vanity, an upper towel cabinet above the bath and a medicine cabinet across from the vanity. I plan on using a TCL tile called called Earth Naturals in either Straw or Hemp for the walk-in shower and behind the tub area. Could you suggest a granite that would complement this scheme? I assume one with little pattern in a mid-range tone would be most appropriate. Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the late response, we unfortunately missed your question, it was not on purpose. The Tan Brown is indeed an elegant, dark choice that would contrast the honey oak wood elements in your kitchen and pick-up your cherry table very nicely, I think it's a sound choice. Some other options you could consider would be Amarello Boreal, Portofino Classico, or for a choice with rich movement you can try Crema Bordeaux. For the backsplash, a warm tumbled stone such as Desert Sand in a stripe pattern or Mocha travertine in a Split-Faced Versailles pattern is appropriate. I've attached pictures of the tiles. Good luck!

04:28PM, Feb 14 2012 I'm leaning toward Toffee, it's a new delivery to our yard and it's an extremely warm color tone with rich brown and golden highlights. It's also very uniform if you enjoy that, for an elegant, sharp look and feel. Hope this helps.

04:19PM, Feb 14 2012 It will not match the Carrara marble, it will rather contrast the tile, which is a positive aspect. However like Kinga mentioned this might make the elements clash. Perhaps more appropriate choices are stones such as Ubatuba, Blue Pearl, or Ice White. Let me know your thoughts!

04:00PM, Feb 14 2012 Is the Star Beach comparable to Golden Beach? If so, I’m leaning towards that stone. However, I feel it would be best if you could post a photo of the Star Beach so I can get an idea exactly what you are considering. I want to make sure I’m giving you a beautiful suggestion.

03:57PM, Feb 14 2012 I don’t think a White Carrara would work very well with a Tan Brown granite as the colors may clash. If you already purchased that backsplash or you want to use it in your design, I would recommend a different stone like Sapphire Blue or Silver Pearl. Both of these stones would work very well with your cabinets and pick up your floor while complimenting your beautiful backsplash. Let me know what you think!

03:05PM, Feb 14 2012 Dear Helen, take a step back and relax, we know this is a difficult decision and you want to make the right choice. I have a few questions to find out what kind of granite you are interested in and we'll be able to help with you the granite choices. Do you enjoy movement and veins in the stone, or a more consistent, speckled pattern? Also, are there any colors you've looked at so far that caught your attention?
  • Scdipierro 04:30PM, Feb 13 2012 I forgot to tell you that my backsplash is a mosaic stone and glass in Almond Spice, and my floor is an off white ceramic tile.....I get very little natural light in my kitchen......I am looking at some paint called mesa taupe from Home Depot...Behr......please help me with paint suggestions!!!! (bain brook brown granite countertop, and cherry cabinets)

03:45PM, Feb 11 2012 I'd use a light color like you've described to offset the dark perimeter counters and cherry cabinetry. My recommendations for you to consider are Ivory Fantasy, Astoria, and Snowflakes. Let me your thoughts on these!

  • Helen 05:58AM, Feb 10 2012 Thank you for such a prompt reply. What about the granite? Do you think that I should go with a more uniform color or bursts of color? Should it be more brownish or greenish or may be I just should stay away from green and stick with brown tile and granite? But all brown is so boring....Do you think that such small tile will not make the back splash too busy and the kitchen even smaller? What do you think about subway tile or natural stone like sq. tile? I am so worried about the white appliances, I am afraid that I will not be able to blend them with the rest of the colors.
Thank you again for your help.

  • Shirley McCune 03:54PM, Feb 7 2012 I have tan brown granite counter tops with cherry cabinets.  The granite has a lot of burgundy in it which I love.  Now we are putting an island in and will probably need a granite that gives a nice contrast to the tan brown counter tops.  It would be useless to try to match the island with the tan brown we already have so what do you think?  Any ideas on a color of granite that would contrast nicely?

02:14PM, Feb 7 2012 Since your cabinets are off-white, the Tan Brown will not be too dark. As a matter of fact, it’s a wonderful option for your kitchen as is the Black Pearl and Bahia Brown. Good luck!

02:09PM, Feb 7 2012 Have you considered a tumbled slate like Autumn Mist? Slate will definitely continue the rustic look of your house. If the slate feels too dark for your taste, a Sienna Gold Random Mosaic would also achieve the look you are after. A Blend Rectangles Mosaic is another wonderful option for your kitchen. Let me know what you think so far!

  • mj 09:30PM, Feb 5 2012 I am trying to select a granite for countertops in a very small galley kitchen.  The cabinets will be off white with brown beading in the crevices.  The floor is a new solid surface with 5 inch squares of light brown and cream, looks like stone.  I like the tan brown sample.  Will that be too dark?

  • Cwidman1027 10:58PM, Feb 2 2012 I am being pushed to make a back splash selection for our newly constructed home.  This is difficult without having the cabinets and everything in place.  It is a home in the country so we are trying to keep with the rustic/country look.

Our kitchen/dining area will have Shaw Wynfield Hickory - 304 Burnt Barnwood hand scraped engineered wood floor. The cabinets are Rustic Knotty Maple with Maple Acorn and black glaze, granite will be India Copper Brown.  The adjacent mudroom area is in rustic knotty oak cabinets with Autumn stain and black glaze with Shaw Brushtone multi porcelain tiles.  The main entry will have Marazzi Walnut Canyon multi porcelain tile.

What are your ideas for a backsplash for the kitchen to pull it all together?

08:29PM, Jan 26 2012 Seems like you're right on track for a warm and inviting kitchen atmosphere. The Santa Cecilia is a solid, attractive choice that will withstand the test of time nicely. Another option you could consider, from a similar family in terms of color tone and pattern, is Giallo Napoleone. As for the backsplash, my suggestion is Merola Cobble subway tile for a soft and elegant choice. I've attached a picture for your reference. If you'd like tile suggestions with more depth and color, just let me know if this does not attract you. Good luck!
  • JennD 01:20PM, Jan 23 2012 We have an eat-in kitchen in a traditional colonial that gets a good amount of light from windows along one wall.  So far we have chosen Kraftmaid Maple "Cognac" cabinets, "Honey Maple" Knight Plank by Karndean luxury vinyl wood plank.  We are leaning toward St. Cecelia for the granite as we would like to paint the walls a rich, warm golden color.  Do you think that is a good choice or do you have a better suggestion?  We are completely at a loss as far as color/material for backsplash.  I love reading your recommendations!  Thank you :)

01:40PM, Oct 20 2011 Do you know what type of gray floor tile you have installed? It's a pretty general statement to tell us that you have gray tiles, just because there are so many shades, patterns, and designs of gray tile! 01:12PM, Oct 13 2011 When incorporating a white colored countertop, a white sink (ex. granite composite) is popular for a clean and crisp look. It can be farmhouse style or a regular undermounted variety. I've attached an image to show you what I mean. If this is not possible, then do not worry as you can simply use the stainless steel sink because stainless steel is a very timeless and classic choice -- looks nice with virtually anything. 05:31PM, Aug 17 2011 A slate floor tile would compliment the granite nicely and the overall organic feel of the design.
