08:52PM, Jan 17 2012 We classify Austral Dream as marble and treat it as such. From your description, it seems the stone is showing classic marble traits and characteristics. There is not much to do to make marble stop etching, you can minimize the etching by getting the surface honed. Also, invest in a strong sealer as otherwise this stone will stain, here is one we recommend:
Good luck and I hope this helps.

03:14PM, Jan 10 2012 Austral Dream is a pretty unique marble-like appearance. I recommend to visit a stone yard and look at the full slabs in-person to find your closest match that is attractive to you. My recommendations are possibly Ambrosia White, and Astoria, but honestly it's hard to say.
